Advantages of Quantum-Enhanced Generative AI For Biologics Design and Optimization

Abstract:

Designing peptide- and large molecule-based therapeutics is a complex problem, with an immensely large yet highly constrained search space. With near-infinite possible amino acid sequences, it is extremely computationally expensive to explore this space and find candidates that satisfy the many constraints on viability. However, quantum-enhanced generative AI has shown promise in navigating this complex search space. In this presentation, Zapata AI CEO and co-founder Christopher Savoie will share how quantum-annealing-based generative models can provide better performance over classical techniques in drug discovery pipelines. He will present recent research conducted with quantum hardware provider D-Wave Systems and demonstrate how this research can also be applied to optimize amino acid sequence selection.

Biography:

Christopher Savoie is founder and CEO of Zapata AI, the Industrial Generative AI Company. Zapata leverages generative AI enhanced with techniques from quantum science to drive growth, operational efficiencies and cost-savings for industrial-scale use cases. Its powerful suite of numerical and text-based generative AI solutions address complex operational challenges faced by enterprises in finance, manufacturing, logistics, life sciences, telecom, defense, and beyond.

He is a published scholar in medicine, biochemistry, and computer science, and his research and business interests over the years have focused on the intersection of machine learning, biology, and chemistry.

Savoie is the original inventor of AAOSA, the A.I.-based natural language interface technology used to develop Apple’s Siri. Dr. Savoie’s medical research focused the biophysics and structural biology of MHC Class I peptide binding, and he was a pioneer in the field of immune-informatics and computational vaccine design. Dr. Savoie previously founded GNI, a publicly traded pharmaceutical company that commercialized his innovations in the application of Bayesian machine learning to systems pharmacology and drug design. More recently, Dr. Savoie has led big data analytics efforts at Nissan-Renault.

Dr. Savoie is also a licensed attorney and the current Chairman of the Quantum Law Technical Advisory Committee of the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C). He has also served as the Vice-Chairman of the Big Data Committee of the American Bar Association. Dr. Savoie is a published legal expert on liability issues surrounding Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Information Security and Data Privacy and has lectured and taught continuing legal education courses on these subjects.
